Wellness & Yoga Retreat Core Activities
Treat, Teach, Connect, and Educate
As part of my retreats, I like to include certain core activities which I believe we all need as human beings in order to thrive.
These activities fit into my treat, teach, connect, and educate model. They are predominantly group activities, but that’s not to say they are all about a group dynamic. A good yoga class can be used to connect you very deeply with yourself (or with others using some of my unique ‘yoga that connects’ techniques) and the education sessions can also give you an amazing amount of self awareness.
You can also complement these activities with optional therapies as appropriate.

Richard Brook, Camila Ganc, Mayan Patel Properly taught, yoga is extremely therapeutic — not just on the physical level, but also for your mind and emotions. I teach several different styles of yoga, but their energetic foundation comes from Dru Yoga, a gentle but potent yoga which is suitable for all. I find Dru yoga extremely powerful as it engages different levels of you — exercises are often done with visualisation — so I wouldn’t just say to you “Stand in mountain pose.” That’s empty. What I might say to you is to “Stand in mountain pose and embody the essence of a mountain — think of how a mountain is (yoga poses have their name for a reason) — anchored into the Earth but also reaching for the sky. So anchor down through your feet and lift the crown of your head towards the sky, and open your chest. Be proud of yourself as mountains are big and proud!” Deep Relaxation and Meditation expert I’m an expert at teaching deep relaxation and the meditative aspects of yoga (I also teach an individual meditation and body-mind connection workshop). I also work a lot with implementing positive affirmation during deep relaxation — not always from me, but enabling you to listen to your own inner voice and Heart — which is always congruent with your best potential and life path. I’ve written in depth on yoga and the body-mind connection. Click here if you would like to read more. Yoga that Connects Yoga fundamentally brings us to wholeness. However, we have different levels within being whole — connection with ourselves, connection with another, connection with our community, and connection with our environment and natural world around us. So depending on what kind of retreat you are attending and what the emphasis and focus is, I also combine, where appropriate, partner and humandala yoga. These styles are a speciality of mine which work with the levels of connecting with another person, and our bigger community, which are two areas of massive deficiency for most of us in modern living. These types of yoga are also fun and great for building rapport with the retreat group as a whole. It is also extremely nourishing if you have been lacking connection in your life. They have a more serious personal development side to them as well; you can practice staying relaxed in connection with another person, and learning to connect through the body as well as verbally. Variety I also usually have at least two yoga teachers at my wellness and yoga retreats for variety and to engage different levels of you. The supertalented and highly qualified Camila Ganc teaches Hatha Yoga, but also mixes in Kundalini and Ashtanga yoga principles where appropriate. Mayan Patel teaches Ashtanga-based Vinyasa flow. Both these teachers provide yoga that is not only complementary to the ethos of the particular retreat, but is extremely potent in its own right as well. |
| 80 / 20 Principle for Entrepreneurs & Self Employed
Michael Arnold
As an entrepreneur you face even more possible distractions and opportunities to work around the clock. When five o’clock rolls around you don’t have anyone to tell you to go home. It can seem like you’ve simply traded one boss for an even more demanding one – yourself!
As an entrepreneur it’s even more vital to understand and implement the 80/20 rule in your business and your life. Did you know that research consistently shows that in business 80% of your revenue will come from 20% of your customers. On the other side, 80% of all your business problems will come from 20% of your customers (you could probably list these people off the top of your head right now). But normal business thinking says that all customers are created equal and should be given equal time. Wrong! By focusing your energy and attention on the top 20% that make your heart and your bottom line sing you can begin to cut out the bottom 20% who make your life a misery, and your partner annoyed that you haven’t been home before 9pm in weeks.
Be warned this material is radical and demands you to be ruthless with your time. Many people feel strange doing less, while everyone around them is running around like headless chickens. In order to really make this kind of lifestyle a reality you need a shift in your mindset that allows you to have more peace and stillness in your life. Another workshop Michael runs on the same retreats “You are The Stillness” is an ideal compliment in helping you along this path.

| Biodanza Trixie Denneborg who has worked at Moinhos Velhos for many years delivering exceptional massage treatments also teaches a movement practice called Biodanza. This is how Trixie explains the practice (from her website www.beatrixdenneborg.com)”Biodanza (neologism from the Greek bio (life) and the Spanish danza (dance), literally the dance of life) is a profound system of self-development that uses music, movement and our positive feelings to deepen self-awareness:that ability to make a holistic link to ourselves, our emotions and to express them. Biodanza also enables us to deepen the bonds with our fellow Human Beings and with Nature and to express those feelings congenially. It is defined as a “human integration system of organic renewal of affective re-education and of relearning of Life’s original functions. Its application consists in leading vivencias through music, singing, movements and group encounter situationsIt is a method which aims the development of human capacities, including the feeling of happiness, communication skills and improving of relationships.” Trixie DenneborgOn a slightly different level, I personally find that Biodanza makes me smile…a lot. Sometime so much that my face hurts! |
